DataMover for Shelf
Expediting data rights

At Shelf, we use technology developed through the DataMover project. DataMover is an initiative focused on putting you in charge of your data.

Connecting a platform to Shelf via DataMover gives you easy access to track what you've consumed on that platform and add items to your Shelf. Beyond that, it’s also a way for you to reclaim access to the data on that platform that you’re entitled to and then place that data in a secure personal store that you have full control over.

What happens after you connect to a platform?

— Shelf will never see or store your login credentials. You may get an email from the platform that says that there’s been a login on your account as DataMover's systems help you reclaim access to your data.

— You’ll obtain a copy of your personal data on the platform that you’re entitled to by law, like your streaming history.

—DataMover and Shelf are not affiliated with Netflix. You’ll simply be using DataMover's software to port data on your behalf, from your account, via your personal device, to your personal data store hosted by Shelf.

What happens to your data?

—Your data will be on your secure personal date store and will be updated on a regular basis. You’ll have full ownership and control over it, and can unplug it from Shelf at any time.

— Shelf will never transfer or sell your data without your consent. Instead, Shelf provides you with opportunities to do more with your data. For instance:
— With DataMover, you will be able to transfer your own data to third party services at will. Shelf may facilitate the exchange and take a small fee from the receiving service provider.
— Shelf may also provide you with the opportunity to contribute your data to anonymized and aggregated datasets for research and consumer panels. If you choose to do this, your data will be completely anonymized and aggregated so that it cannot be tied back to you. And you may also get compensated on a regular basis for Shelf to acquire this anonymized data.
